A Valuable Lesson in Hearing and Discerning God’s Voice
Warren Wright
Many years ago, I belonged to an organization that held a business meeting on the first Monday of every month. One such Monday, I was upstairs in my bedroom after dinner, getting dressed to go to the meeting, and the thought came to me, “You should call and find out if the meeting is still on.” I dismissed that thought, knowing that the meeting is always on.
So, I finished getting ready and drove about a half hour to the house where the meeting was held, only to find it all dark. There was no answer to my knock at the door. I stood around, perplexed, for a while, wondering what was going on. Then the group’s president came home in his car. After greeting me, he asked if I had not gotten the word that the meeting had been cancelled. I told him no, I had not.
So, then I had to drive a half hour home. In hindsight, I realized that the thought that came to me, which I dismissed, was actually the Holy Spirit prompting me. Had I had paid attention, I could have avoided the preparation and driving about an hour round trip for nothing. I learned a valuable lesson: pay attention to inner promptings, as they could be from God.
Healed of Neuropathy
Evelyn Hoopes Wright
In August 2024, I was watching The 700 Club and heard a co-host declare a word of knowledge that exactly fit my need. She said, “There is someone whose left hand has tingling and pain in their fingertips.” Instantly I knew that described my condition and claimed that healing miracle as my own.
Within days, I noticed that I no longer had any pain or tingling in my left fingertips. Several months went by and I was still happily pain-free.
In December, I felt the Holy Spirit prompt me to testify about my miracle so I emailed The 700 Club. In January 2025, while washing dishes, I looked up as I heard my name mentioned as my husband and I were watching The 700 Club. The testimony I had sent in a few weeks earlier was now on the big screen.
What a thrill to see and hear my name and healing was now shared to increase the faith of others!
Mexican Restaurant Miracle From: “It’s Not Odd… It’s God! 33 Stories That Can Only Be Explained Supernaturally” (Chapter 3)
Evelyn Hoopes Wright
“For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, and my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth; Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; And in Your book were all written the days that were ordained for me, when as yet there was not one of them.” (Ps. 139:13-16).
One evening, in a Mexican restaurant in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, not far from where my husband, Johnny, and I lived, I learned an important lesson on hearing and obeying God.
Our hostess showed us our table, and soon our waitress appeared with a basket full of hot chips and medium salsa. We munched while reviewing the menu and then ordered our entrees. Before our dinner was served, I excused myself to use the restroom. While there, I looked in my purse to see if I had an appropriate gospel tract to leave in the stall. (I often leave gospel tracts; you never know when they might make an important difference in someone’s life.) The only one I had featured a photograph of an unborn baby and depicted a week-by-week description of the various stages of in utero development. Before I could leave it, however, I heard the Holy Spirit whisper, “Give it to the waitress.”
At the conclusion of our meal, my husband asked if I had a tract to include with the tip. I placed the money in the tract, then handed it to our slim waitress, who eyed the cover photograph and exclaimed, “How did you know I was pregnant?!”
“I didn’t,” I honestly replied, “but God did. He told me to share this with you.”
While putting on my coat to leave, I overheard our waitress excitedly telling her co-workers about our unusual interchange. I didn’t ask or learn any other details about this young woman’s life. I didn’t need to. It was apparent to both of us that something supernatural – that couldn’t be denied or explained naturally – had just occurred.
Why did God give me that Word of Knowledge? I believe the main reason was to warm the heart of our waitress and let her know how much He loves her and her unborn child. I also believe He supernaturally arranged all the many details that had to come together for this prophetic encounter to occur, to encourage me.
At this stage in my Christian walk, I had heard His “still, small voice” (I Ki. 19:12, KJV) many times for myself, but I was still new at hearing Him for others. Hearing God’s “still, small voice,” is such a privilege and one promised to all believers in Jesus whom our Father tenderly calls “sheep.” “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me;” (Jn. 10:27). What a thrill to hear ‘inside information’ from the Creator of the universe confirming an insight that could only have been revealed supernaturally! Truly, all involved were encouraged.
A thought about this story…
Following God sure makes life interesting. A routine visit to the restroom opened a supernatural door of inside information (our waitress’ pregnancy) that I had no natural way of knowing. Hearing God can be exciting and even lifesaving. You may wonder, “How can I hear from God?” As with all relationships, we learn to recognize someone’s voice by hearing it repeatedly. Hearing the voice of God is no different, but it does not come automatically; we must learn to hear Him, verbally or otherwise, by listening and discerning. Both the boy Samuel and the prophet Jeremiah discovered this (I Sam. 3:2-10, Jer. 32:8). You can too.

A Dental Visit ‘Pregnant’ with Miracles!
Evelyn Hoopes Wright
During a six-month dental checkup, my usual hygienist told me that the hygienist who had cleaned my teeth a year ago (not my usual hygienist) was now on maternity leave with her recently born son. I rejoiced to hear this exciting news as six months earlier, this ‘substitute’ hygienist had approached me while I was lying in the dental chair having my teeth cleaned by my usual hygienist.
She showed me her protruding belly (due to being more than three months pregnant), and asked me, “Do you remember what you prayed over me?” “No,” I honestly replied. “You prayed that there would be a removal of whatever was hindering my conceiving – and that’s exactly what happened!” she exclaimed. She shared that soon after our prayer time, her body began ‘naturally’ releasing what had been hindering it from conceiving – and continued doing so for almost a month; then, soon afterwards, she learned she was pregnant!
Prior to this time, she said, believing in God or His miracle-working power was a struggle for her. Now, however, her beautiful son was a daily reminder of God’s Love and power to heal and answer prayer.
The hygienist who told me the story then asked me for personal healing prayer. I gladly prayed for her, expecting God to meet her need too. She also told me that the other hygienist had called me “that strange lady who prayed for me.” At first, I thought she meant “strange” or “peculiar” because being around ‘believing believers’ who offer to pray for people’s needs in the midst of everyday life - like during dental appointments - might qualify as an unusual experience for her. Instead, I learned she called me “strange” because she had never previously met me, so I was a ‘stranger’ to her. Either way, “strange” or “peculiar” (see 1 Peter 2:9, KJV), are labels I’ll gladly accept when miracles like this result. You too?
